![]() This is most likely what Sebastian referred to by calling all humans he has met arrogant. Sebastian has probably observed how humans will always believe they are in some kind of advantage over or are superiour to someone when the chance is given. People who consider themselves superiour to others will let their guard down, and it is exactly that weakness- or arrogance!- on which he preys. Because he is so lean, people also heavily underestimate his power. Because he is but a servant in status, people look down on him. Sebas “sacrifices” his above-human status and stoops to servitude, he sacrifices his colossal form and takes the shape of a twink lean man, etc. Sebastian’s main tactic in manipulation is working with the illusion of advantage in his opponent, including his own master. The beauty of Sebastian’s character is in the details.Ĭhapter 36 wherein Sebas said that he has never met a non-arrogant human is very significant in my opinion. His master may have command over him, but no control. He expertly uses his disadvantage to his advantage, and still manages to influence and manipulate his master in his actions despite the latter having absolute command over him. ![]() And yet Sebastian does not seem bothered at all. On surface these terms are quite limiting because he needs to sacrifice quite a bit of freedom. The most important example is the three contract terms that bind Sebastian. Sebas is not afraid to sacrifice his pieces, but in the end, white usually still finds itself being cornered from all sides, and then it is checkmate. Sebastian’s understanding and manipulation of the human mind is such a spectacle to behold.īlack also has to sacrifice some pieces therewith he gives white momentary feelings of victory. Sebastian did not say: “the Phantomhive servants will kill your family.” No, instead, Sebas did what he does best and used the power of suggestion, making Joker let his own fear escalate and come to his own worst conclusion. Sebas waited until Joker was really about to believe himself before also cutting his words off like he did before with his arm. Later on, Sebas allowed Joker quite some time to assure himself with the knowledge of his family’s prowess. Sebastian was presumably not just too slow to react this was more like his gore equivalent of c*ck-teasing Joker about avenging his ‘father’. But then, just a metre before Joker would reach his target, Sebas mercilessly cut off his arm. In chapter 32 Joker launches the first attack and Sebas allows him a few seconds to charge forward. My favourite is example is the showdown with Joker. He tactically “moves his pieces” and slowly but certainly narrows the window of what white can do. ![]() Sebas observes how his opponent will move, and only then responds. In the chess metaphor, white always plays first, and black follows. Of course he could because he is just that powerful, but he sees pleasure in seizing victory through silent manipulation. Sebastian is not the aggressive predator who strikes the moment he sees his prey. But if I had to choose one thing to characterise him as, it would be the black chess master! The Black Chess Master ![]() There are many things I could compare Sebastian to, such as quicksand, or a black hole indeed. I explained why and what I love the most about him in this post ^^ Sebastian is not just ‘one of’, but he is the favourite character of mine (perhaps of all times). First of all, my apologies for the late reply. ![]()
